Diary of our kittens

Sorry for not updating the blog recently but we had a few hectic days and we got out of the habit. We had a couple of days when we let mum out for a few hours and she did not come home for about 12-24 hours. We had to visit the vets to learn how to feed and 'clean' the kittens. Everyone at the vets enjoyed having a look at the kittens.

We are glad to say mum is home safe now and does not seems so keen on wandering off and is looking after us very well. We have grown quite a lot and we are now starting to walk and we have even been out of the box in the living room for a look round. We still get tired quite quickly and after some food we have to have a sleep.

Today we were all weighed again and we have all put on weight. We range from 175g whilst the biggest of us is 190g. Yesterday our owner got confused with the scales and thought that one of us hadn't put on any weight for a day or two. She was a bit worried and spent hours checking that we were eating and sleeping regularly as well as writing up a kitten log of when we ate. Today of course we are a lot heavier and she is pleased.

After we were weighed today we had a quick check to see if our eyes had started to open - two of us are still in the dark about this seeing business but our tabby brother has one eye which has started to open. Mum heard a tip yesterday that the last kitten born is often the first to open its eyes and its true that he was the last born.

After a quick check on our eyes it was back to Mum for a good feed. Just nodding off now zzzzzzzzzzz.

Our owners tell us that mummy has been sneaking outside today while we have been asleep. We are sleeping now for about an hour so mummy has been taking the chance to have a break. She always seems to be back when we wake up and want some more food. She must be very clever to know when to come back.

We are looking forward to when we can go outside but I suspect it may be a while yet before we are even allowed out of our box.

Time for another snooze, more tomorrow zzzzzzzzzzz

Now that we are getting bigger we have to eat for longer and then we fall asleep. Today I had a nice long meal and then I burrowed in with my brothers in order to keep warm and cosy. Mind you I had to fight my way in for the meal first as someone tried to pinch my favourite spot! There was a lot of pushing and shoving but I eventually made it to the right spot and had a good long drink.

We were all asleep in a neat heap when the neighbour came round to see how we were getting on. She thought that we had grown quite a lot.

This afternoon it was time for another good meal and then a long snooze. Mum curled up in the box with us for the snooze and then gave us all a good wash before settling down to clean her paws.

It has been the first time today that Mum has left us in the box on our own - she went downstairs and had a quick turn around the garden. While she was gone her owner had a good look at us and admired our markings - we know that we are all beautiful because both the owner and the neighbour said so!

We were all weighed this evening and even though we are only three and a half days old we are nearly half as big again as when we were born.

(note from Mum's owner - the black one is 155g, the marbled black tabby and white one is 145g and the tabby one is 150g. A kitten weighs 90 - 110g when born and should gain about 7 - 15g per day.)

Because we are all getting bigger we now eat for longer and sleep for a little while so Mum gets a few minutes to herself.

It has been a hard day trying to eat sleep eat and sleep! We have to try and double in weight within 7 - 10 days and triple in weight by 21 days so we are training hard.
